Support Black-Owned Restaurants During #TheGreatAmericanTakeout
12:00 am
On Thursday, June 11, The Great American Takeout encourages Americans to support their local Black-owned restaurants by ordering a takeout or delivery meal.
To deepen the event’s impact and further support the Black community, a coalition of supporters (including brands like Shift4 Payments) will donate to Black Lives Matter.
To participate, showcase your takeout from a Black-owned restaurant on social media. For every social post tagged #TheGreatAmericanTakeout during the one-day event, the coalition will donate $5 to Black Lives Matter (up to $25,000).
To find a list of Black-owned restaurants in your area, visit the restaurant list on The Great American Takeout website or download the EatOkra app.
Since March, Americans have supported the restaurant community at large by ordering hundreds of thousands of takeout meals during The Great American Takeout’s virtual events. This week’s event aims to focus that nationwide engagement on celebrating the Black community, both through supporting Black-owned restaurants and raising funds to combat anti-Black racism.
After this Thursday’s event, The Great American Takeout encourages Americans to continue supporting local Black-owned restaurants by ordering takeout regularly throughout the weeks and months ahead.
The Great American Takeout is a campaign developed by Los Angeles advertising agency High Wide & Handsome to support the restaurant industry. It aims to drive takeout and delivery orders as a means to support the struggling restaurant industry throughout the COVID-19 crisis. The campaign has generated widespread buzz, with more than 9.1 billion media impressions to date, while raising $310,000 for charitable organizations supporting restaurant workers.
