Masterclass on DOCG Wines

As American appreciation for Italy’s highest quality sparkling wines continues to surge, the Consorzio di Tutela del Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG has partnered with San Francisco Wine School (SFWS) to offer Bay Area wine professionals, wine media, and SFWS students a masterclass on these little-known DOCG wines. Led by Advanced Sommelier Marissa Kipp, the class will showcase the distinctive terroir and traditional craftsmanship of this UNESCO World Heritage wine region, which continues to surge in popularity.

Conegliano Valdobbiadene (pronounced “coh-nay-lee-AH-no val-dough-bee-YAD-den-nay”) is a one-hour drive north of Venice, in the foothills of the Dolomites. This very steep, triangle-shaped region — carved out by ancient glaciers and defined by ancient rivers — curves from east to west, starting in Conegliano with soils made up of morainic material left behind by the Piave glacier; traversing seven soil types; then ending with limestone soils surrounding the village of Valdobbiadene. The many soil types add to the rich diversification of wines that trade professionals will experience during the educational session.
